GARDEN DESIGN

THE DETAILS ARE NOT THE DETAILS. THEY MAKE THE DESIGN.  CHARLES EAMES

The first part of the design process is to 'take the brief' - getting to know you and understanding your needs and wants for the garden.  My job is to interpret and translate this into a design that works for you and is sympathetic to the house and setting, as well as the all-important budget.  I am used to working with all sizes of budget and advising clients at the outset on what kind of garden is achievable and realistic to expect from this.   Whatever the budget, I aim to ensure the build is of the highest quality possible within the available spend.

I offer two garden design services, as described below, but these can be flexible depending on the needs of each project, and I am always happy to have a chat about which service would meet your requirements.

I am frequently asked to design a garden as a consequence of renovations or a new house extension and work with other professionals, such as architects, builders, and suppliers, often 'off plan'.  Planning the garden early ensures different work streams for the house and garden are coordinated.

 ESSENTIAL DESIGN SERVICE

AR Concept Model0005.jpg

If your garden is small (up to 150 square metres), your budget is under £15,000, and/or you want to build the garden yourself, this may be all you need to kick-start your project.

For a one-off fee of £750, I will provide a concept design and a basic layout plan.

The service includes:

  1. An initial consultation/site visit of 1-2 hours during which I will discuss your requirements in depth and develop the brief with you.  This will be followed up by a short questionnaire on your preferences for materials, plants, and how you want to use the garden.

  2. Site analysis, topographical site survey, photographic survey

  3. Initial concept ideas with explanatory 3D visuals.

  4. A final 2D concept design on plan with 3D visuals, along with a dimensioned plan for setting out.

The service does not include detailed construction drawings, technical specification,s or planting plans.  We can discuss requirements should these arise, and I will quote based on my hourly rate.
